Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Project Engineering Manager (PEM) or Project Technical Manager to join our Mining team, based out of Calgary or Edmonton, AB. The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) or Project Technical Manager will be responsible to lead engineering execution on complex, multidisciplinary projects. This role is critical to ensuring technical excellence, alignment with project goals, and delivery of high-quality engineering outcomes.

If you are a registered professional engineer, you will hold the title of Project Engineering Manager. If not, you will serve as Project Technical Manager with equivalent responsibilities.

Location: Calgary or Edmonton (Home Office)

Mobility Requirement: This role is based in Calgary or Edmonton, with the expectation that the successful candidate will mobilize to project sites across Western Canada as needed. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all engineering activities across the project lifecycle.

  • Manage and mentor project engineers and lead discipline engineers.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, procedures, and client requirements.

  • Oversee engineering deliverables for quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance.

  • Set strategic direction and priorities for engineering execution.

  • Manage sub-contracted Engineering Service Providers (ESPs), ensuring contract obligations are met.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and functional leads to determine staffing needs and resolve resource conflicts.

  • Approve engineering schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and technical deviations.

  • Provide input to weekly and monthly progress reports and sponsor-level meeting agendas.

  • Initiate specialized engineering services and technical audits as needed.

  • Represent Bantrel in a leadership capacity both internally and externally.

  • Provide formal and informal mentorship to project engineers, discipline engineers, and other team members.

Qualifications

  • A degree in engineering or a scientific discipline from an accredited institution; or demonstrated equivalent experience in a relevant technical or scientific role.
  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in engineering, including cross-discipline project engineering and at least one assignment as an Area Project Engineer.
  • Experience may include project engineering, start-up, field engineering, or plant operations in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and large-scale projects with a high degree of responsibility.
  • Proven leadership in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation preferred.
