The island Health Division of Nephrology is seeking a full-time general Nephrologist to work in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

The new recruit is an addition to our current complement of 6.5 FTE nephrologists.

The successful candidate will be offered full integration into the group. Allocation of inpatient service, dialysis and on call duties will be shared equally with current full-time nephrologists in Nanaimo.

Remuneration is fee for service as outlined by the medical services plan of British Columbia as well as level 2 MOCAP paid in accordance with on-call services provided.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority coordinates the delivery of health care to the approximately 900,000 residents of Vancouver Island and surrounding islands. Nanaimo boasts a full-service renal program. Facilities include an 18 station hospital-based in-centre hemodialysis unit, a Home Dialysis Clinic (peritoneal and hemodialysis), 3 community dialysis facilities, and two multi-disciplinary Kidney Care Clinics. Together these facilities support the care of approximately 250 dialysis patients and several thousand CKD patients living in the central and north island.

The Central Island Nephrology group is based in Nanaimo. The service model involves a rotation in which each nephrologist provides 1 week of inpatient service, 1 week of renal unit coverage and 3 weeks of outpatient office work, including CKD and home dialysis clinics.

We are seeking an individual with training, skills and experience in all aspects of clinical nephrology - hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, chronic post-transplant care, hypertension, and general clinical nephrology. The successful applicant will have FRCPC designations in Internal Medicine and have completed fellowship training in Nephrology. They will work with a group of hard-working, team-oriented and patient-focused renal care providers. Sub-specialty training in areas such as GN or transplantation will be considered an asset. Experience, training and interest in medical administration will also be valued as future participation in medical leadership roles will be expected.
