About the role

Hours of work will normally be day shifts with occasional hours beyond this, as required to meet tenant needs.

Rate of Pay: $22.99/hour - $27.22/hour (Starting salary will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions). The superintendent's wage includes an association with the housing allowance as part of the overall compensation package.

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd HOMES Program

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The HOMES Program provides supportive housing to persons who have been homeless and are living with a mental illness. Team Members support tenant to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community. An opportunity exists to join our team as a Cleaner.

  • Work to make a difference in the lives of tenants at various apartment buildings in the Hamilton community
  • Provide hands-on assistance to tenants with independent living skills, specifically cleaning, laundry, organization and pest-control preparations
  • Be aware of and sensitive to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions and developmental disabilities
  • Work collaboratively with tenants in their home with a range of functions, such as cleaning, and other associated tasks that support our tenants
  • Enhance the dignity and quality of life of our tenants through the assumed responsibility for cleaning services
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO OUR TEAM

  • One year cleaning experience in a residential facility (preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a necessity
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative and think creatively
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently in client homes ad community settings
  • Certification in CPR or a willingness to be certified is also required
  • Experience working with the homeless population would be an asset
  • Committed to an anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
  • Fluent in English; second language is considered a strong asset
