The School District

Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education.
  • Possession of a valid BC teaching certificate and current membership with The Ministry of Education and Childcare.
  • Post Secondary diploma or similar in Special Education.
  • Proven training and recent successful experience in teaching literacy and numeracy across multiple curriculum areas at the elementary level.
  • Ability to apply a trauma-informed approach within professional practice.
  • Experience and expertise in competency-based assessment strategies.
  • Demonstrated skill in creating and sustaining a positive classroom environment that promotes active student engagement.
  • Proficiency in employing inclusive instructional methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in applying inclusive principles to address varied learner requirements.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a school team, including communication with parents and caregivers when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience working on a School Based Team (SBT).
  • Experience in differentiating instruction to support individual student success.
  • Familiarity with integrating relevant technologies into instructional practices to enhance student learning outcomes.
