Job Summary The Applications & Research Engineer will primarily focus on researching and developing innovative technologies and materials to enhance the performance of Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs). This role will involve close collaboration with the R&D Test team to support and manage all developmental testing activities. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for researching optimization and selection of critical components and working with alternate material suppliers to imple-ment Value Add Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives within the organization. Responsible for integrating new testing procedures for future product line of North American Ventilation Segment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Designs future products using simulating software such as CFD
- Designs and performs tests on newly developed products and existing products; documents test results; performs analyses based on Thermal Analysis as per CSA439-18 standards
- Work with Supplier during R&D to discuss alternate materials and other technical requirements
- Carries out research and development projects when assigned by the Engineering Manager
- Provides support to the Product development team
- Evaluates components from new suppliers and performs full functional test with aided support from Lab test technicians
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design process for new product development and product improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure design feasibility and compliance
- Review prototypes, validate performance, and iterate designs based on testing and feedback
- Apply DFM and DFA principles to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs
- Ensure all design documentation meets regulatory, safety, and quality standards
- Initiate market research on new materials and technology to design future products
- Work with current Thermal chamber and create additional DAQ systems utilizing LabVIEW software programming
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)
- Must be competent with AutoCAD, Inventor and CFD is must
- Must have knowledge of Heat exchangers
- 10–15 years of relevant industry experience in mechanical product design and development
- Proven expertise in DFM, DFA, and CFD tools and methodologies
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and related PLM systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Solid understanding of material properties, manufacturing processes, and GD&T
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
- Good reading, writing, and computational abilities are required in documenting inspection results and interpreting test re-sults.
- Must possess a thorough understanding of Thermodynamics
- Ability to use, effectively and efficiently, specialized testing equipment, tools and other measurement devices
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities are required in documenting inspection results, interpreting test results and must be able to prepare results of inspections for referral to others.
- Must possess a thorough understanding of product specifications, wiring specifications and production processes, and end user requirements
