Strathcona Resources Ltd. We are actively seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to join our Operations team within our Lloydminster Thermal division at our brand-new Meota Central facility. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to play a key role from the ground up – supporting the project through construction, commissioning, and start-up phases. In this role, you will also help recruit and build your own team, who will report directly to you, while playing a central part in establishing a strong safety-focused culture from day one. As a Shift Engineer, you will lead your team in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant by optimizing production and maintaining all processes within specifications. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing your team members. The ideal candidate brings comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, plant equipment and plant operations, along with a proactive approach to continuous improvement - enhancing workflows without compromising safety or quality.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Ensure compliance with Strathcona’s HSE and regulatory policies while promoting a strong safety culture and maximizing plant efficiency.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and control plant operations, maintaining accurate documentation (logbooks, permits, inspections) and initiating work orders, hazard IDs, MOCs, and incident reports as required.
  • Lead and support the operations team through effective communication, coaching, training, and positive leadership, including during emergencies and ERP drills.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and HSER teams to resolve issues, develop creative solutions, and recommend process improvements.
  • Review, update, and write operational procedures; ensure adherence to company standards and work practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all operating positions, remain open to continuous learning, and provide constructive feedback while fostering respectful, professional working relationships.
  • Uphold management decisions and company values through honest, transparent communication and active participation in safety and performance initiatives.

Qualifications Include

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively develop and manage a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Minimum 8 years SAGD operating experience with in-depth knowledge of steam generation, water treatment, oil treating, de-oiling, and well operations.
  • 2nd Class TSASK Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.
  • Familiarity with DeltaV DCS systems considered an asset.
  • An understanding of Once Thru Steam Generators, Water Treatment processes SAGD Wells, Natural Gas Compressors and Utilities Systems (glycol heaters and air compressors)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to interpret facility drawings (i.e. P&ID’s, Line Lists, and Shutdown Keys).

Work Environment

  • 12-hour shift schedule on a 7-dayson/ 7-days-off rotation, alternating between day and night shifts. This includes coverage on weekends, holidays, and as needed to support plant operations.
  • Position based in a plant setting.
  • Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the North Battleford area.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required.
