Job Summary

Manage capital projects, ensuring they are planned, designed and constructed to the most up-to-date standards and techniques available. Manage staff, consultants and contractors in the administration of all phases of the project to ensure all terms of contracts have been fulfilled.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise project planning and design.
  • Develop design criteria, guide design staff, review, certify, stamp, seal and sign completed engineering design drawings.
  • Develop contract Form of Tender and prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Obtain all necessary design approvals and construction permits.
  • Prepare Bid Award Recommendation and obtain all approvals.
  • Ensure contract stays on budget and schedule, regularly visiting construction sites and monitoring contractor performance.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are achieved and provide professional advice to address issues that cannot be resolved by team members.
  • Resolve conflicts and provide information in response to enquiries all levels of staff and outside agencies.
  • Review technical reports, studies and write comments.
  • Provide project advice and technical guidance as needed.
  • Approval of consultants’ invoices for work completed, preparing and approving change orders.
  • Functional guidance of contractors.
  • Comply with relevant City policies.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with 5 years’ experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Microsoft Office software, along with applicable City software.
  • Regular hiking to secluded areas, scaling steep valley slopes, wading through creeks and rivers.
  • Review of detailed design drawings, reports and studies checking for accuracy.
  • Visits to project construction sites, roadways, bridges, secluded areas.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 114,677.00 - $ 152,905.00
Hours of Work: 35
Work Location: Civic Centre - 300 City Centre Drive

Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs.
