Job Description
As the HSE Manager, you will provide leadership and oversight of RJ MacLean's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and client standards while supporting safe and efficient operations.
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental Management initiatives, overseeing risk management, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions. The HSE Manager will lead the HSE team, provide guidance and support to operations, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement to protect employees, subcontractors, the public, the environment, and company assets.
Health, Safety & Compliance
General oversight, advisement, and strategic planning for the HSE division of US and Canadian operations Claim and case management of occupational and non-occupational claims.
Annual audit and revision of Health and Safety Management System
Liaise with operations and transportation for federal carrier and DOT compliance.
Oversight of ISNetworld, Avetta, Comply Works and WCB
Oversee subcontractor pre-qualification process. Maintain company programs compliance with provincial and federal regulations; COR; and client specific. Hazard assessments/identifying hazards. Maintain monthly statistics (KPIS) for compliance site updates and site tracker. Provide an annual companywide presentation with overview from the previous year and outlook for the upcoming year.
Operational Support
Provide mentorship HSE staff on projects . Develop site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and safety improvement initiatives. Ensure company-wide training requirements are communicated, tracked, and maintained.
Leadership & Collaboration
Act as a trusted resource for managers, supervisors, and employees on HSE matters. Lead weekly HSE team meetings and coordinate quarterly Health and Safety Committee meetings. Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and safety excellence.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
Represent RJ MacLean professionally with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Support client-specific HSE requirements and participate in client meetings and audits.
What Skills and Training Do You Need?
10+ years of HSE experience in oil & gas or industrial construction. 5+ years leading an HSE team. NCSO designation. Extensive experience with WCB,COR, SECOR, ISN, Avetta, and ComplyWorks. Strong knowledge of transportation legislation for federal carrier and DOT compliance. Strong client-facing experience supporting multiple worksites and contractors. Proven ability to develop HSE programs, mentor safety professionals, and work collaboratively with operations to achieve both safety and business objectives. Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and industry best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Practical, solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
