Position Summary
The Child Care Assistant Manager will monitor the day-to-day program activities of the child care program and ensure that they are carried out effectively according to provincial child care regulations and center policies, procedures and guidelines. They must ensure that the developmental needs of children and the program needs of staff are being addressed and that programming follows best practices in early childhood education. This will be achieved through a combination of time on and off the floor: 50% time spent on the floor with children and staff and 50% time off the floor performing a variety of administrative, program and supervisory duties. This position is out of child care ratio.
Requirements
This individual must possess excellent communication and leadership skills and demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, dependability, fairness and understanding to staff and clients of the child care centre and of RODS. They must be dedicated to meeting the needs of the staff, children and centre and set an example to the other staff. A strong understanding and knowledge of child care policies and centre procedures as well as best practices in Early Childhood Education is required.
- Early Childhood Education- level 3
- Safe Food Handling certificate
- First Aid/CPR B or C
- Criminal Record Check- including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Knowledge of Saskatchewan child care regulations and the Early Learning Program Guide from the SK Ministry of Education
- Leadership and supervisory experience and skills
- Strong Computer skills- keyboarding, word processing/publishing software, substantial computer operational knowledge
- Valid class 5 driver's license and access to a personal vehicle

Knowledge of Child Care Regulations/Programming Guidelines: has an advanced level of understanding of and experience with child care regulations and the Early Learning Program Guide including; nutritional guidelines, health and safety guidelines, ratios, and play and exploration- based learning environments that follow best practices in early childhood education
Duties and Responsibilities
Program
- Monitor program activities and environments to ensure that best practice in Early Childhood Education, centre guidelines and procedures and licensing regulations are followed
- Coordinate daily schedules and staffing to ensure ratio is maintained and make adjustments as needed
- Maintain first aid kits, excursion backpacks and child social resumes
- Monitor attendance checklists, sign-in sheets, medication and injury forms to ensure accuracy
- Identify and support the developmental needs of children within the program (ex. individual program plans, developmental assessments)
- Provide suggestions, feedback and support to staff to enhance their professional development and quality programming
- Review staff programming reports and provide ongoing written and verbal feedback
- Provide on-the-floor assistance with environments and program activities
- Assist with the enrollment of new clients and children including enrollment meetings, paperwork, first day introductions
- Assist with the orientation of new staff
- Communicate with parents regarding day-to-day child care information, needs and questions
- Coordinate special activities such as library visits, excursions and public health/dental visits
- Communicate program needs/concerns/ideas to the Manager
- Make nap beds daily and maintain nap lists and bedding supplies
- Cover child care ratio as needed- breaks, programming time, staff absences
- Assist with kitchen duties in Cook's absence
Administrative
- Assist with maintaining monthly lists/reports as required
- Assist with the facilitation of meetings as required- staff, grant, parent
- Assist with the pick up of supplies as requested
- Assist with licensing review preparation
- Review program newsletters and send to parents
- Assume any required manager duties in Manager's absence
- Assist with the pick up of supplies as needed
Supervision
- Delegate duties and direct ECE staff with program expectations
- Conduct formal and informal observations of staff and environments to evaluate performance and quality of programming
- Assist Manager with hiring and interviewing new staff
- Provide staff performance feedback to the Manager and assist with written performance evaluations and performance meetings
- Assist staff with conflict resolution
- Supervise practicum students/volunteers
- other duties as required
Direct Reports
Provides direction to and supervises ECE staff along with the Child Care Manager.
Salary Level/Classification
The annual salary for this position starts at $58,304.64 ($28.03 per hour) at Step 1 of the Child Care Assistant Manager (CAM) RODS wage category. This position is eligible for a monthly wage enhancement/top-up from the Ministry of Education. Pay periods are the end of day on the 15th of the month and the end of each month.
Working Conditions
As part of the Child Care leadership team, the Child Care Assistant Manager is expected to work the opening and/or closing shift of the centre, as agreed upon with the Manager, and be flexible with scheduling and hours of work to meet the needs of the program. Parking will be provided if required to use personal vehicle for work purposes.

Hours of work for this position are 8 hours per day Monday to Friday within the hours of 7:30am to 5:30pm, with an unpaid 1 hour break. All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record check. There is a 13 week probationary period included with this position and a cost-shared benefits package and a 3% employer pension contribution available to the employee after 6 months of employment.
