About the role
What is the project? The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
- Provide strategic direction for engaging with Indigenous stakeholders, including developing any applicable stakeholder engagement processes
- Advise internal stakeholders on best practices on engagement with Indigenous stakeholders
- Act as the main point of contact for developing relationships with Indigenous stakeholders throughout the duration of the project
- Identify and cultivate new partnerships in the geographic area in which the project takes place
- Build meaningful long-lasting connections with local community and Ingenious leaders by acting as the main point of contact
- Maintain a deep understanding of stakeholder objectives and priorities and how they intersect with one another
- Act as the main point of contact with OPG and ensure project compliance with OPG requirements
- Communicate partner concerns and grievances to internal stakeholders with the objective of the implementation of solutions
- Propose recommendations on timing, approaches, and tactics for engagement and lead the resulting actions
- Ensure adherence to all stakeholder engagement processes
- Provide strategic direction on the development of meeting materials
- Conduct presentations and drop-in sessions to ensure the correct application of best practices and ensure alignment
- Facilitate discussions at stakeholder meetings to ensure consistency of key messages and the obtainment of meeting objectives
- 10 years’ experience with at least 5 years of direct stakeholder engagement-related experience in a lead role
- Experience with engagement and relationship management with the City of Pickering and Indigenous communities
- Experience in delivering large projects with multiple stakeholder involvement
- Member of the WTFN
- Ability to communicate with cross-functional stakeholders and with external partners
- Ability to facilitate outcome-oriented conversations and reach consensus among diverse groups with different priorities and perspectives
- Capacity to integrate insights from multiple internal and external sources
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
