Organizational Information
Purpose of your Position - Non Union
Classification Summary - Union
An Accounting Assistant prepares, processes and reconciles financial accounts, statements and records in support of financial reporting and accounting systems.
Duties - Union
-
Calculates and prepares summaries of various accounts related to departmental operations.
-
Ensures accuracy of financial transactions.
-
Prepares documentation for posting transactions and checks output for accuracy.
-
Applies payments on accounts.
-
Analyzes and reconciles accounts and records.
-
Acts as a prime point of contact for the public and internal staff on financial enquiries, payments and collections.
-
Participates on special project teams.
-
Performs system set-up and testing, including aeronautical billing systems.
-
Processes and drafts invoices and work orders.
-
Provides peer training.
-
Participates in cross-training including processes Restricted Area Access, organizes meetings and records minutes, and provides reception services.

Compiles and analyzes statistics, processes and drafts correspondence and reports, prepares contracts/leases/licenses.

Transport Canada Security Clearance
Education and Experience:
Option 1
-
Six (6) months’ experience.

An Accounting Diploma from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
Option 2
-
Minimum of three (3) years or greater of recent relevant accounting experience.

Minimum of three (3) courses recognized as CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) pre-requisites by CPA BC. Two (2) of those courses must be in in Accounting or Finance.
Option 3
-
Minimum of one (1) year or greater of recent relevant accounting experience.

Minimum of five (5) courses recognized as CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) pre-requisites by CPA BC. Three (3) of those courses must be in Accounting or Finance.

Starts at $36.03 per hour with 2 step progressions to $38.21 per hour plus 14% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
