About the role

Overview:

The IT Operations Administrator is responsible for common technical or administrative tasks in the ongoing maintenance of the MPI computing and enterprise print environment. The position proactively seeks better ways to improve the routine burden of technical support tasks.

This position is classified as Category D (twenty‑four‑hour operations) under Article 23 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and currently follows a rotating Monday‑to‑Friday schedule, with multiple eight‑hour shifts scheduled between 06:00 and 23:00 (subject to change) as assigned by the Supervisor, IT Operations.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Print Services - Color Print Centre

  • Responsible for high volume and colour print management, print operations, printer consumable management, print quality control, ad-hoc print requests and customer letter re-prints.
  • Assists with vendor management for technical printer repairs.
  • Assists with hardware upgrades and maintenance as required.
  • Liaises with Application Services for batch letter print generation issues.

Technical Procedure Handling

  • Runs daily tasks related to batch submissions, file transfers, print operations, and other similar procedures.
  • Schedules, reviews and optimizes scheduling processes for effectiveness.
  • Provides shift coverage that includes extended hour support and on call duties for related print, reporting and technical jobs handled by IT Operations.
  • Works with Application Services to ensure technical procedures are correct and accurate to meet their needs.

Inventory Control and Logistics

  • Participates in IT’s larger, IT Asset Management (ITAM) procedures and practices with shelved equipment and related disposals.
  • Manages printer consumables, paper and pre-printed form inventories.
  • Coordinates portable offsite tape media.
  • Handles the audit and secure destruction for related electronic media and devices.

Documentation Management

  • Develops and assists in maintaining documentation and publishing procedures for IT support.
  • Works with technical teams to ensure document and procedure quality and accuracy.

Change Control and Support

  • Participates in the development and maintenance of change management processes which ensure that operations-related changes are scheduled and implemented in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Acts as a consultant resource to other areas to provide operational expertise for the area.

Continuous Improvement

  • Works with the Supervisor to recommend and implement methods to enhance the technical and administrative procedures and practices within the IT Operations area.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One technical certification e.g. A+ Certifications or Microsoft Certified Certificates

OR

  • Two courses in Computer Science or related technical discipline e.g. training on enterprise class computing systems and their components.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience working in a data centre operations department or an IT Service Desk, or working with technology comprised of one or more of the following:
    • Intel Servers
    • Midrange Servers (Unix, AS/400)
    • High-Capacity Printing Technology
    • Asset and/or Inventory Management

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Learns and/or operates office software and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Works with minimal direction and exercises initiative.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Handles multiple tasks and prioritizes assignments.
  • Interpersonal skills.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position may be required to participate in rotating on-call support.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 40 lbs. (18 kg.). (Testing may be required to demonstrate ability).
