Victoria College Program: Creativity & Society

Position: Sessional Lecturer (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2)

CRE371H1F Documenting Reality – This seminar course explores methods of capturing, representing, and constructing reality through documentary media. Emphases will include opportunities and challenges brought by technical developments in the digital era, and the history and evolution of documentary work in print and/or photography. Students consider methods and innovations of major practitioners; ethical issues such as privacy, subjectivity, and objectivity; and partisanship and the effects of artificial intelligence and other automatic tools.

Expected course time: TBA

Expected enrolment cap: 25

Dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026

Course Modality: In-person, Victoria College campus

Teaching Assistant: There is no TA support

The salary will be as per the CUPE agreement (e.g., September 2026 Sessional Lecturer rate is $9,997.47 including vacation pay).

Requirements:

  • PhD
  • Extensive industry experience, including produced documentary works
  • Record of scholarly research, including academic articles and / or books
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
