Be part of something bigger. Build with us today — Now, for tomorrow.
At Baker Tilly, we care about the impact you make. That’s why we’re invested in your growth from day one—because the steps you take today define your tomorrow.
We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our SR&ED Tax Incentive Team, with a focus on Information Technology and other high-tech sectors—a role where you will play a key role in preparing and defending SR&ED claims, partnering with clients and technical teams, and driving successful outcomes.
Baker Tilly is a leading advisory and accounting firm dedicated to building better futures. With global reach and local roots, we combine the scale of a network with the trust of strong relationships. From audit and tax to consulting and specialist advisory services, we help clients navigate complexity and seize opportunity with clarity.
“There is no limit to the growth opportunities at Baker Tilly. We pride ourselves on promoting talent when we see it, and work with each professional to define what success means for them.”
Your role:
- Prepare higher complexity SR&ED tax incentive claims and assist with claim reviews as required.
- Maintain regular contact with assigned clients, including operations, finance, accounting, payroll, and engineering personnel, as well as their accountants, to gather relevant information for project costing and tax return input.
- Cultivate strong client relationships, uncover SR&ED opportunities, and provide bespoke consultation throughout the claim lifecycle. Meet with clients in-person and virtually establish engagement plans, evaluate eligible activities, and gather supporting documentation.
- Partner with our technical team to identify eligible costs, formulate strategic plans, and ensure a seamless claims process.
- Advocate for clients in interactions with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and provincial bodies, leading them through the FTCAS or Review/Audit process, submitting requested information, and attending meetings.
- Offer specialized advice on tax credits and deductions, ensuring alignment with clients’ fiscal goals and optimizing financial gains. Stay abreast of changes to SR&ED programs and other relevant tax incentives.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients’ operations, lead multiple engagements to success, and pursue ongoing professional development.
What you bring to the table:
- 2-5 years of experience claiming SR&ED tax credits and claim defense.
- Undergraduate degree in business (accounting, tax, or corporate finance) or equivalent; experience in public accounting and/or industry.
- Proficient in TaxPrep, Caseware, and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Outstanding client service abilities and superior communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in both autonomous and team-based environments.
- Detail-oriented self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
- Capable of excelling in a dynamic, fast-paced workplace.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work professionally with colleagues, client stakeholders, accounting partners, and leadership.
- MPAcc or CPA designation an asset (but not required).
- Experience with Alberta Innovation Employment Grant (IEG) and/or Quebec R&D credit assets (but not required).
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset (but not required).
What’s in it for you?
- Summer Fridays.
- Fun, team-oriented culture — including social events like axe throwing, wine tours, and team outings.
- Flexible work arrangements.
- Professional development and mentorship opportunities.
- A dynamic, inclusive, and growing workplace.
