Salary Range (2025 Rates) $20.40 Training Rate
$31.39 First Six (6) Months Rate
$35.20 After Six (6) Months Rate
Closing Date Applications for this position must be received at by no later than 11:59 pm on October 15, 2025. Oakville Transit is currently accepting applications for part-time Casual Transit Drivers. As positions become available, and based on seniority, casual drivers may be moved up to fill full time positions. All Oakville Transit Drivers are required to become a member of UNIFOR Local 1256 union.
Job Responsibilities Working hours are on a shift basis, involving no more than five of the seven days per week on which the system may be designed to operate. Duties include:
- Operation of a range of public transit vehicles owned by the Town including Specialized Transit along routes and in adherence to schedules established in a safe, efficient and courteous manner.
- Assisting customers requiring directions or advice in order to reach their destinations.
- Collection of proper fares, issuance of transfers and recording of numbers of passengers when required.
- Proper inspection of vehicle and reporting of deficiencies, collisions or other occurrences in accordance with the systems regulations.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be capable of safely operating all Oakville Transit vehicles and possess a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum with a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour.
- Must have the ability to upgrade to a Class C License with a Z air brake endorsement.
- Must possess an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Demonstrated effective communication and customer service skills.
- Previous shift work experience is desirable (i.e. split shifts, weekends, late evenings).
- May be required to work statutory holidays based on operational requirements.
- All job offers are conditional upon the successful candidate supplying, at their expense, a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening, dated within the last 30 days; current drivers abstract; and a valid copy of their driver’s license.
