Principal at Fox Creek School
Northern Gateway Public School Division is
seeking a dynamic and collaborative educational leader to serve as School
Principal (K-12) in the community of Fox Creek. This is an exciting opportunity
for an experienced leader who values strong relationships, student success and
community engagement in a supportive small-town environment.
About the Community
Located along Highway 43 in Northwestern
Alberta, Fox Creek is a welcoming community of approximately 2000 residents
that offers the charm of small town living combined with excellent recreational
opportunities and community spirit. Community members enjoy access to modern
amenities including the Fox Creek Greenview Multiplex (which includes an arena,
pool, fitness center and fieldhouse) as well as
parks, playgrounds, restaurants
and essential services. Located near green forests and many nearby lakes, Fox
Creek also offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities such as fishing,
golf, hiking, snowmobiling and much more. The town of Whitecourt is located
approximately 45 minutes away, providing easy access to expanded amenities.
Fox Creek School serves students within a

The School Principal will lead in a
context where collaboration, trust, and responsiveness to local needs are
essential, and where the school serves as both an educational and community
hub.
About the Role
The Principal of Fox Creek School is a
key leadership role, responsible for guiding instructional excellence, student
achievement, and positive school culture. The successful candidate will build
upon existing strengths while responding thoughtfully to the evolving needs of
students, staff, and the community.
The Principal is responsible for the
overall leadership, administration, and management of Fox Creek School in
accordance with the Education Act. Acting as the instructional leader of the
school, the Principal ensures that educational programming aligns with approved
courses of study and that students have equitable opportunities to meet provincial
standards.
This role
works collaboratively with staff, School Council, students (where
appropriate), Division leadership, and community partners to advance school
priorities and ensure effective implementation of Division and Superintendent
direction.
Key responsibilities include:
Instructional Leadership
- Provide instructional leadership within the school.
- Ensure that instruction delivered by teachers aligns with courses of
study and education programs prescribed, approved, or authorized under the
Education Act.
- Evaluate, or provide for the evaluation of, programs offered in the
school.
- Ensure students have the opportunity to meet education standards set by
the Minister.
- Supervise the evaluation and advancement of students.
- Evaluate teachers employed in the school.
School Management and
Operations
- Direct the overall management of the school.
- Maintain order and discipline within the school and on school grounds
during Board-sponsored or Board-approved activities.
- Develop school organization and staff deployment plans to support
curricular and extracurricular programs.
- Promote and maintain high standards of staff performance, staff
conduct, student achievement, and student conduct.
- Ensure accurate and appropriate fiscal, personnel, student, and school
records are maintained.
- Request maintenance and repairs to school facilities and equipment and
assist in planning for physical plant improvements.
- Keep central office administration informed of significant decisions,
activities, accomplishments, and challenges.
Planning, Collaboration,
and Communication
- Work collaboratively with staff, School Council, and, where
appropriate, students to develop, implement, and evaluate the School Annual
Education Plan aligned with Alberta Education’s Three-Year Business Plan and
the Division’s Three-Year Education Plan.
- Collaborate on the development of an annual operational budget that
supports identified education plans.
- Prepare the Annual School Results Report outlining progress toward
identified outcomes.
- Promote cooperation between the school and the community it serves.
- Foster open communication, collaborative decision-making, and collegial
relationships.
- Effectively implement Division and Superintendent directions in a
manner that fosters staff and community support.
Leadership and Professional Practice
- Demonstrate leadership practices aligned with Alberta Education’s
Leadership Quality Standard (LQS).
- Carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with the competencies
and expectations outlined in the LQS.
- Effectively build the capabilities of assistant principals.
- Utilize effective recruitment practices.
- Carry out duties assigned by the Board in accordance with School
Council and Board regulations and requirements.
- Actively participate in the Division Administrators’ Association.
- support and cultivate teachers' application of the domains of the NGPS
Quality Learning Environment (QLE)
- based on Inclusive Education practices, demonstrate a commitment to
student achievement through a focus on curriculum-instruction-assessment and
the Teaching Quality Standard
The successful candidate will:
- have a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- demonstrate a commitment to student achievement through a focus on
literacy and numeracy programming, support and intervention
- be knowledgeable about First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures, and
preferably have worked with First Nations and Metis students, elders and
education partners
- demonstrate a commitment to student achievement and success through a
focus on the Collaborative Team Meeting (CTM) process
- have successful school-based leadership experience
- have experience with or extensive knowledge of off-campus programming,
including Work Experience, Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) and Inreach
- demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and
- have a related Master Degree or enrolled in, with a specified
completion date
