McMaster Engineering Community Outreach is passionate about providing first-rate, barrier-free, transformational learning opportunities to toddlers through to young adults for over 30 years. We provide enriching, hands-on activities that encourage creativity, personal growth, and a passion for learning. Our team breaks down barriers to support youth in their exploration of STEM education through, events, community workshops, summer camps, and more.
In collaboration with community partners, educators, and families, the McMaster Engineering Community Outreach unit fosters collaborative and inclusive engagement that creates accessible pathways to STEM education for historically under-represented youth in our community, including Black youth, Indigenous youth, girls*, 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and youth facing socio-economic disadvantages.
The Community Outreach unit is delivered through the Engineering Student Recruitment and Community Outreach (ESRCO) Office. The strategic priorities of the ESRCO Team:

Cultivate top talent for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Maintain impactful communications and connections with current students by strategically partnering with student organizations.

Create opportunities for equity-seeking groups and advocate to provide information and experiences that make post-secondary studies in Engineering both possible and plausible.
Job Summary and Accountabilities:
The Outreach Facilitator will be a part of the Community Outreach team, responsible for the success and development for our Barrier-Free programs. This role requires overseeing the success of Community Outreach under an alignment with the goals of McMaster University’s Engineering Student Recruitment and Community Outreach (ESRCO) Office. The Outreach Facilitator must align their overall planning and objectives with Community Outreach’s vision to provide hands-on STEM opportunities for youth, with emphasis on providing barrier-free opportunities for underrepresented youth in STEM within the community.
Responsible for developing and facilitating in-person and virtual, off-campus and on-campus community STEM workshops and advocating for and with underrepresented youth in STEM, under alignment with Community Outreach’s equity and inclusion goals.
The Facilitators are to be leaders and mentors who have a positive impact on youth in STEM. The Facilitators are to have a good understanding of STEM concepts and exhibit the ability to explain complex ideas to students in Pre-school to 12. The Facilitators must have patience, flexibility, and strong communication skills to deliver programming in a variety of methods; in-person, virtual synchronous, and virtual asynchronous.
Outreach Facilitators will regularly travel throughout Hamilton, the GTA, and surrounding cities/regions to facilitate workshops for youth and may often work evening and weekend shifts. G-Class license and/or access to a vehicle is preferred for this role.
Outreach Facilitators will be responsible for cultivating relationships across diverse communities to provide new opportunities, along with managing existing relationships with valued community partners.
Outreach Facilitators' hours are flexible due to the nature of the role and working with the community. You are scheduled to work 35 hours per week January to June and 40 hours per week July and August, but your daily work hours will vary depending on the schedule of the day. You are expected to work evenings and some weekends. ESRCO office hours are 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Your supervisor will guide you in flexing your hours to ensure a balanced work week.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate degree program at McMaster University
Experience:
- Previous work with STEM education, and youth programming, is considered as an asset
- Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Must hold valid or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR C certification prior to start date.
- G-Class license and access to a vehicle is preferred for this role.
Additional Information:
- This position will be in-person work and will be based at McMaster University’s Hamilton Campus in the John Hodgins Engineering building.
- All Outreach Facilitators will undergo an extensive Instructor Training program to develop and share the required skills and information before starting their responsibilities. This comprehensive training ensures they have the necessary support and background knowledge to succeed in their role and gain skills beneficial for their professional development and career success.
- This position counts as an 8 to 12-month full time co-op position starting Thursday, January 8, 2026. Position requires occasional work during evenings and weekends as well as occasional travel.
