As a Building Maintenance Worker for Calgary Housing (CH), you will be responsible for a wide variety of residential property maintenance duties in a busy, customer-focused work environment. Primary duties include:

  • Respond to work orders in common areas as well as occupied and vacant housing units including visually inspecting sites, identifying problems, repairing and replacing components (e.g. minor electrical, minor plumbing, cabinetry, flooring, drywall, painting, and carpentry repairs).
  • Report any observed deficient conditions while working on CH managed sites and request work orders to resolve.
  • Report major issues along with suggested scopes of repair to the Maintenance Administrator, Lead Hand, or Building Maintenance Services Coordinator.
  • Respond to emergencies to troubleshoot and resolve issues when requested.
  • Provide excellent customer service to tenants including advice on maintaining their units and contact information for non-maintenance related inquiries.
  • Complete paperwork such as Move-Out Inspection Forms, Accommodation Inspection Reports, Maintenance Add-on forms and work order prioritization and completion.
  • Use mobile maintenance apps to manage all work orders and inspections as required.
  • Suggest opportunities for continuous improvement of maintenance services to Lead Hand or Building Maintenance Services Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalency (i.e. GED) with at least 2 years of residential maintenance experience is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • Completed safety training such as Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), enrollment in a Residential Building Operator Certificate, and exposure to various trades will be considered assets.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently as well as to be an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and problem-solving abilities.

Working Conditions: You will be required to drive between worksites and work around emotionally troubling situations such as poverty and violence.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
