Job Description The Financial Systems Manager is responsible for supporting the financial systems used by the Finance and Accounting department. The Manager will support users including by providing training on systems as required, assisting with the monthly/year-end accounting close process; administering or managing system user access and related financial system governance and controls; and design or run queries and reports to provide detailed information requested by end users. This position is also responsible for leading and supporting various information technology projects related to the financial system which includes new system implementations and system upgrades.

The Financial System manager will build and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders such as:

  • Information technology team
  • Finance and accounting team
  • Financial Planning and Analysis’ team
  • Operations and business teams
  • External Auditors

  • Solid line: Director, operational accounting
  • Dotted line: Director Financial Reporting and Director, Information Technology

Essential Duties

Day to Day support of Accounting and Financial Systems

  • Responsible for supporting and managing Microsoft Dynamics NAV (ERP), Jet Reports and Workday Adaptive for finance.
  • Act as the primary Finance contact for NAV including general ledger and chart of accounts maintenance, data setup and system configurations along with troubleshooting, investigating, and solving system issues for financial transactions and information. Document any defects identified and work with IT on their resolution.
  • Participate in weekly IT development calls
  • Be the key point of contact for Finance in all systems related projects
  • Design reports in Jet Reports or other tools (Adaptive) and develop access queries to support data requirements/reporting needs of the finance team
  • Support the external auditors by providing reports, data and system documentation as needed.
  • Handle system security (user and detailed permission level) and perform regular reviews to ensure appropriate segregation of access for control purposes
  • Ensure that data integrity, internal controls, and audit trails are maintained throughout all applications.
  • Support and manage accounting and financial interfaces including operational system interfaces and banking interfaces
  • Work closely with the Finance groups to identify areas for process improvement
  • Develop strong relationships with internal finance customers and IT
  • Conduct meetings and presentations to effectively communicate findings and plans to cross-functional team members and management.

Project Work

  • Manages/supports various ad-hoc projects including system implementations, modifications, IT Compliance, archiving etc. as required.
  • Perform the Finance Business Analyst role with respect to NAV PROJECTS including: evaluating business processes; gathering end user requirements; identifying areas for improvement; supporting solution design; writing User Acceptance test scripts and performing and leading business users in User Acceptance testing
  • Collaborate with other Business Analysts, application developers and outside consultants as needed on customizations, enhancements or system upgrades.

Experience, Education, Certifications

  • An accounting designation or business degree is preferred
  • Diploma or Degree in Information Systems
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience supporting mid-sized finance and accounting systems
  • Direct experience in an analytical financial role

Required Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV or other ERP system
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Access and power user skills in Excel required
  • Advanced knowledge of Jet Reports or Adaptive Financial Planning preferred
  • Familiarity with JIRA/Zypher (or equivalent) development/testing tracking system desirable
  • Thorough knowledge of development of data / process flow diagrams, including swim lanes
  • Proficient in standard end-user computing tools such as Google Applications, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Good general knowledge of accounting activities related to: general ledger; month end close; financial statement preparation; AP; AR; cash management and asset management
  • Ability to evaluate processes and document in a clear and concise manner business requirement for IT developers.
