As a Senior Systems Administrator at the University of Toronto Mississauga, you’ll have the chance to lead meaningful change. You will design and modernize core systems, be at the ground floor of integrating advanced cloud services, and support large-scale enterprise environments that directly enable cutting-edge research and student learning. This isn’t a back-room role — your expertise will shape tactical and operational decisions across on-premises and cloud computing services.
You’ll be the go-to subject matter expert for colleagues and partners, bringing both technical depth and problem-solving creativity. Whether you are mentoring peers, leading projects, or architecting new solutions, your work will make a tangible impact across the campus. Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Designing and implementing new operating systems and subsystems server software
- Analyzing and configuring highly complex enterprise applications and services
- Devising solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment
- Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
- Designing and implementing cloud application architecture according to requirements
- Leading and planning IT projects
- Researching, analyzing and recommending solutions to project challenges
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years of system administrator hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating systems
- Minimum of five years of web server, application and database deployment and administration
- Minimum of five years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Active Directory
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing services in any cloud platform (Azure, Google, AWS)
- Demonstrated experience with large scale technical projects
- Understanding of system and application security hardening, vulnerability assessment and patch management in a production environment
- Highly proficient in Linux and Windows scripting including Python, BASH and Powershell
- Experience working with hypervisor infrastructure such as VMware in a production environment
- Extensive experience with Linux-Active Directory integration
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, presentation and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high organizational and leadership qualities
Assets (Nonessential)
- ITIL foundations level (or higher) certification
- Demonstrated experience working in a structure change management environment
- Experience working with the ServiceNow platform
- Familiar with a higher education environment, governance and policies
- Experience with datacenter infrastructure management
