The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Director of Program Underwriting to grow our Micro/SME Commercial Insurance Solutions team. Reporting to the VP, Micro Insurance Solutions, you’ll collaborate with business leaders and DUA partners to deliver creative, solutions-driven underwriting.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Evaluate program opportunities and determine coverage, terms, pricing
- Assist in reinsurance placements for programs including structured insurance programs and treaty placement
- Negotiate new and renewal program business with brokers and MGAs
- Handle referrals and escalations under DUA agreements
- Provide input for new insurance wordings and agreements
- Monitor portfolio performance, manipulate data and determine trends in collaboration with Actuarial and Claims colleagues
- Ensure documentation meets departmental standards
- Foster strong relationships with reinsurers, brokers, MGAs, and Claims partners
- Deliver market presentations and support business development
- Collaborate across business lines for a multi-line approach
- Ability to conduct peer reviews and broker/MGA audits
- Internal monthly and quarterly review presentations on results
- Ability to train/mentor designated staff and take on a leadership role
- Ongoing learning and updating of changes in marketplace, insurance trends, and litigation
- Developing, maintain, and enhance underwriting manuals and contribute expert knowledge to process documentation
- Working closely with VP in building and implementing Micro/SME strategy. Assist with budgeting, identifying critical success factors and ensuring goals are being met.
- Promoting the Tokio Marine Canada brand, working closely with various business units including the broader Commercial Insurance team and Professional and Financial Solutions.
- Assist with broader company tasks as needed
- Possibility of travel up to 10%
Who You Are
You’re a proactive underwriter who thrives in dynamic environments and builds strong programs.
You bring:
- A university degree or college diploma preferred
- 7+ years of commercial underwriting experience (programs preferred)
- CIP or FCIP designation (preferred)
- Strong stakeholder management and organizational skills
- A customer-first mindset and collaborative spirit
- Comfort in a dynamic, evolving environment
- Experience with insurance portals, and digital insurance distribution in the P&C insurance market
- A keen interest in underwriting technology and AI in insurance
- The ability to partner with our staff within different lines of business .
- A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results.
- Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).
- Bilingual (English/French) preferred but not required.
