About the role
Position Summary Our Liquids West group is actively seeking a dynamic Transport Manager. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of goods across our network, reporting directly to the District Manager. As a key member of our operations team, you will take on a diverse range of responsibilities that span both office-based planning and on-site oversight at our facilities, offering a unique blend of strategic coordination and hands-on operational leadership.
This position can be based in Saskatoon, Edmonton or Airdrie. Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Prioritize Health and Safety by adhering to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and best practices, and consistently maintaining safe work behaviors.
- Oversee daily transportation operations, including route scheduling, shipment tracking, and ensuring timely delivery of goods.
- Ensure full compliance with local, provincial, and federal transportation and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions and safety protocols as needed.
- Monitor and manage transportation budgets and costs to maximize efficiency and reduce overall expenses.
- Supervise, mentor, and support transportation staff, including drivers and logistics team members.
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts to build and maintain a skilled and high-performing workforce
- Coordinate with customers, vendors, facilities, and suppliers to address transportation needs and resolve shipment-related issues.
- Develop and implement transportation policies and procedures aimed at improving operational efficiency, safety, and service quality.
- Other duties as required.
Experience, Qualifications And Education
- Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management, or equivalent professional experience.
- Dispatch experience is required.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Previous truck driving experience is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety and a Safety-focused attitude.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop team members.
- Strong customer relationship management with both internal and external clients.
- A willingness to take direction and work effectively in stressful situations.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to new working environments.
- Experience in managing multiple job tasks and people.
- Proven knowledge of business and management principles, strategic planning and leadership techniques.
- Excellent ability to listen, analyze and adapt to ever changing situations and schedule changes to meet the requirements of GFL customers.
