Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an organized and proactive professional to:

  • Prepare and operate light and heavy maintenance equipment such as patrol truck, crash truck, loaders, plows, combinations/spreaders, tractors, weed eaters, lawn mowers, chainsaw etc.
  • Maintain, complete and submit a patrol diary daily.
  • Identify and maintain Maintenance deficiencies list.
  • Monitor operations within assigned patrol area.
  • Ensure all roadways are clear of all debris in patrol area.
  • Respond to public complaints.
  • Respond to all incidents within the patrol area (accidents, spills, etc.).
  • Report accidents, incidents and/or injuries to the Patrol Supervisor completing and submitting required documentation daily.
  • Complete and monitor all required paperwork daily/weekly/monthly reports as specified in the contract including: Driver Inspection documents, Hours of Service Log Sheets, Vehicle Circle Safety Checks, Winter Operations Records, and other operational documents as required.
  • Carry out all routine/non-routine highway maintenance activities, facility maintenance and yard maintenance as required; such guideposts, sign installations, pothole filling, washout repairs, debris pick up, picnic site and layby, snow removal, maintenance etc.
  • Assist in training and mentoring staff by utilizing OPSD standards and maintenance best practices, etc.
  • Perform required preventative and routine equipment maintenance, which includes but is not limited to: performing cleaning/washing the interior and exterior of equipment, check fluid levels, assisting in changing plow blades, minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment and refueling equipment after use.
  • Monitor weather, dispatch winter maintenance equipment when required and monitor winter operations.

Position Requirements

  • OTM Book 7 Training for traffic control considered an asset.
  • Must maintain a valid DZ driver’s license.
  • Experience in highway maintenance.
  • Computer literate.
  • Strong organizational skills with clear communication abilities.
  • Helpful, friendly and courteous with the public, regulatory agencies and peers.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision and must be self-directed.
  • Able to stand, lift 50 lbs, carry, bend, reach.

Work Environment

  • Indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Flexible with work hours as there will be shiftwork, including weekends, nights based on the assigned shift and or rotation.
  • Must be available to be on call regularly.
