About The Role This newly created role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our ambitious and dedicated pharmacy team. This role will:

  • Provide professional and operational leadership to the pharmacy technical team comprising technicians and a pharmacy support worker.
  • Directly influence service development and lead on the evolution of the roles and responsibilities of the technical team to meet current and future needs of the service.
  • Play a key role in the day-to-day management of the technical team including performance management and appraisal.
  • Strategically and operationally manage the education, training, and development of the technical team.
  • Provide direct patient care to support the delivery of a safe, effective pharmacy service.

There is no weekend commitment for this post. Applications for part-time work will be considered, as will job share opportunities. Salary and allowances will be pro rata for part-time.

The State Hospital is one of four high secure hospitals in the UK with the principle aim of rehabilitating patients, ensuring safe transfer to appropriate lower levels of security. NHS Lothian provide pharmacy services under Service Level Agreement. This comprises the onsite clinical pharmacy team and co-ordination of medicines supply via St John’s Hospital, Livingston.

We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

(GPhC) With The Following

  • National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  • PDA Assessment and Supply of Individual Patients’ Medicines or equivalent experience
  • HN Unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award (provided by Buttercups or NPA, 2019 or before)
  • HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent experience. However, individuals who do not possess this qualification but can demonstrate equivalent professional experience may also be considered. In such instances, a Mapping Assessment Form must be completed and submitted as part of the application process. Applicants are advised to contact us in advance for further guidance on the completion and submission of this documentation
  • Recognised work-based assessor’s certificate. If certificate not already achieved, it is required to be obtained within 24 months of starting this post.
  • Experience of planning, co-ordinating and managing a pharmacy technical service in a patient-focused environment.
  • A strong alignment with NHS Lothian’s values and drive to provide high-quality pharmacy services.
