We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Investment Analyst to join our Front Office Analytics team reporting to the Director of Analytics.
Why We Need You
The recent acceleration in electricity demand is creating many new and exciting investment opportunities. As a result, we are expanding our financial modelling capabilities to support our ability to evaluate each of these opportunities quickly and robustly. Your expertise will help us ensure that each investment recommendation is well-structured and well-articulated. You will have the opportunity to learn about the energy industry, including various complex energy transactions by working closely with our commercial teams and senior management, while contributing your in-depth knowledge of financial modelling and investment analysis.

About the Role
Every day at Powerex is unique. You will work closely with our trading and deal origination teams to:
- Build and maintain sophisticated financial models to evaluate investment opportunities and complex energy transactions.
- Utilizing best practices, work with senior management to develop new investment modelling templates that drive consistency in our investment analysis process.
- Apply multiple valuation methods (DCF, IRR/NPV, scenario analysis, comparables, and sensitivities).
- Develop project financial statements, including forecasts of capital expenditures, operating cashflows, working capital needs, and debt service requirements.
- Support investment decisions by preparing clear, compelling analysis and presentations for our senior management team.
- Leverage our cloud-based analytics environment (Snowflake SQL, dbt, Python) to integrate large datasets into financial models.
Qualifications & Experience
You need these qualifications:
- 4 – 7 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, project finance, or similar environment.
- Exceptional Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Undergraduate degree in commerce or economics.
- Experience analysing and interpreting financial statements to assess investment opportunities and risk.
- Critical thinking skills to analyze problems with innovative approaches.
- Ability to work effectively and contribute in a collaborative team environment.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to distill complex financial analysis into concise presentations.
It would be nice if:
- You are familiar with complex transaction structures, deal financing, and/or M&A processes.
- You have exposure to risk metrics and modelling, probabilistic analysis, and various statistical methods.
- You hold or are progressing towards a CFA designation (or similar).
- You have exposure to SQL, Python, VBA, and/or other programming languages as well as data visualization tools such as Tableau, Sigma or Power BI.
Location / Compensation
This is a full-time, permanent, in-office position at our downtown Vancouver office (near both SkyTrain and SeaBus).
The starting compensation package includes a base salary of $130 – $150k per year, a comprehensive suite of health and welfare benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and generous time off. The salary offered will take into consideration your education, skills, and the duration and quality of your applicable experience.
