The Planning department of the Climate Action, Planning & Development Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Planning Coordinator. Reporting to Planning Services Supervisor, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible for a six-month term.

This role is responsible for coordinating administrative support for the Planning Department that is of a technical and legal nature and of high profile. This role is primarily responsible for completing statutory public notice requirements related to Official Community Plan (OCP) Amendments, rezonings, development variance permits and Board of Variance applications. The position is also primarily responsible for consolidations of Council adopted OCP amendment bylaws and zoning amendment bylaws within the Official versions of the OCP and Zoning Bylaw. In addition, the position provides administrative support to select Committees of Council with duties including meeting coordination, preparation of Committee meeting packages and Recording Secretary duties (meeting minutes) which at times occur outside of regular daytime office hours.

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma with post-Secondary courses or training in office administration, governance, or a related field and 3+ years of work experience in a similar administrative role of a technical or legal nature that included interacting with members of the public and supporting a team of technical professionals. Work experience in a local government setting is a strong asset. Qualified candidates demonstrate working knowledge of BC local government legislation pertaining to notification requirements for planning, land use and development applications and Robert’s Rules of Order with strong written and verbal communication skills for accurate business communication including grammar, spelling, and punctuation and also, strong proficiency with a variety of technology.

The successful candidate is a well-rounded administrative coordinator who is a solution-focused team player, demonstrates a high attention to detail and the strong ability to work effectively under pressure to strict timelines, and can effectively manage competing demands and priorities. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace while contributing to a positive team environment. The Planning Coordinator is required to work in the office. The starting wage for this job position is $31.98 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
