Overview
Lakehead University is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified candidate for the position of Coordinator, Employer Relations & Career Services at our Thunder Bay Campus. This role is responsible for three key areas: coordinating the operations of the Career Zone, the University’s student-facing resource centre; planning, implementing, and promoting a year-round calendar of career-related skill-building events, activities, and appointments; and building and maintaining relationships with employer partners to create meaningful employment opportunities for Lakehead students and graduates.
Responsibilities
Career Services Programming and Student Engagement

- Develop, plan and implement and deliver an annual calendar of extra-curricular career services events and programming for students at Thunder Bay Campus, such as Career Fairs, Employer Information Sessions, panel presentations and other career-related programming in a variety of formats (in person, online, hybrid) according to the needs of participants and partners.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive student communications and event marketing strategy to reach students via direct email marketing techniques, traditional print tactics, in person outreach, and outreach on various social media marketing channels (such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and departmental webpages etc.), and use design software or work with colleagues as needed to create content in support of the communications strategy while ensuring compliance with brand standards.
- Maintain and improve digital platforms used to track student and employer participation and registration in events and services.
- Represent the department in events on and off campus in order to maximize opportunities for students to connect with employers, explore career paths and ultimately secure meaningful employment.
Career Zone & Career Services Operations

- Coordinate the daily operations of the Career Zone including maintaining the accessibility, cleanliness, and safety of the space and its equipment, ensuring a positive and welcoming student experience, and regular hours of service.
- Amplify and extend available services for students at Thunder Bay campus by recruiting, training, and coaching a team of student volunteers to work in the Career Zone.
- Provide guidance and delegate tasks to peers in the department who may be assigned by the Director to support services delivered in the zone
- Create a schedule to coordinate the team’s shared task of responding to the department’s general telephone extension and shared email inbox
- Coordinate with service providers and vendors as needed to acquire and maintain necessary supplies for career services programming, including monitoring of spending and revenue generation with guidance from the Director of Career Services & Co-op.
- Work with the Director to ensure all student staff and volunteers scheduled to work in the Career Zone understand and adhere to institutional policies governing access to confidential data, FIPPA, academic integrity and codes of conduct, AODA and other policies relevant to the work of career services.
- Support the preparation of funding proposals to government programs to secure resources for careers programming, and adhere to reporting policies and requirements for government funding that the Career Zone may receive.
- Track, compile, and develop analytical statistics and reports that gauge the usage and effectiveness of the programs and initiatives of the Career Zone, liaising as needed with students, faculty, and staff of other units to compile feedback on Career Zone services.
Employer Relations and Community Partnership Development

- Act as an ambassador for Lakehead University’s career services on campus, in Thunder Bay, and in the North Western Ontario region, to engage employers and intermediary organizations such as the Chambers of Commerce and Workforce Planning Boards in career programming, and to identify employment opportunities for students and alumni.
- Monitor, set and meet targets related to the number of active employer partners engaged with Career Services for events on campus and online.
- Design, deliver, and assess the success of Career Services programming intended to generate and strengthen employer partnerships and support talent retention in North Western Ontario, and as desired by students, support existing and new relationships with employers in other regions within Canada.
Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience

Certification as a career development practioner or comparable academic or professional studies an asset

Demonstrated experience applying career development theory within post-secondary and/or employment services settings
-
Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience, with a preference for a post-secondary institution experience in career services, work-integrated-learning and/or student recruitment

Proven experience in implementing a long range vision through the development, execution, analysis, and evaluation programming and events

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

Supervisory experience is considered an asset

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact successfully with multiple constituencies and stakeholders
