Electrical Engineering Technologist I

What will you do as an Electrical Engineering Technologist?
The Engineering Technologist position is responsible for supporting new product introduction, production troubleshooting, sustaining engineering and continuous improvement activities within the Manufacturing Systems Group. The Manufacturing Systems Group’s mandates are: to bridge the gap between R&D and manufacturing; and to ensure all LMI components and products are high yield and low cost. The Engineering Technologist will take on and initiate tasks to support these two mandates, working to optimize processes and maintain high-quality outputs.
- Assist engineers to resolve manufacturing and EMS suppliers technical issues. Conduct experiments and drive root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Troubleshoot electrical hardware problems using schematics and tools such as DMM, oscilloscopes, TDR scopes, logic analyzers, Chipscope, frequency generators, PSU, and programmable power supplies.
- Hands on soldering rework for SMT and Through-Hole PCB.
- Design, build and maintain PCBA test fixture and manufacturing equipment.
- Support production transfer activities, including the creation of work instructions and bills of materials, design manufacturing processes and equipment, coordinate validation builds, and conduct manufacturing training.
- Set up and maintain production lines using LEAN principles.
- Execute engineering change requests, engineering change orders, and related sustaining engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Handle component obsolescence and manage logistic impact.
- Provide training to manufacturing staff.
- Adheres to LMI Employee Policy Manual and ensures its adherence by all group members.
What do you need to be successful?
- Technologist Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years hands on working experience in electronics, mechanical or optics field, with mechanical and electronics assembly experience.
- Must be a “driver” – able to search and track down information as required to support development activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent with Excel, Word, project management software tools, PLM software.
- Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment.
- Understanding of LEAN principles.
Salary Range: CAD $51K - CAD $72K
