How will you contribute?
Join Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne, an independent senator from Quebec, to work on legal and policy issues through the committees on which she serves, including the Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.
Senator Miville-Dechêne successfully shepherded theFighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act(Bill S-211) through Parliament and continues to champion her bill to restrict minors’ access to online pornography (Bill S-209). She is also the co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
This position offers the opportunity to support her work through research and legal and policy analysis.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct legal, policy, and legislative research and analysis on bills under consideration;
- Draft briefing notes on key issues;
- Monitor Senate activities and identify opportunities for engagement;
- Provide advice to support legislative, policy, and committee priorities;
- Occasionally represent the Senator at meetings and events and build relationships with stakeholders.
This role is ideally suited to someone passionate about law and public policy with a strong interest in the parliamentary process.

The general public, to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Office of the Honourable Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne.

Prerequisites
- Law degree;
- Demonstrated experience in legal and policy research and analysis, including the ability to synthesize complex information and formulate sound recommendations;
- Experience drafting written materials such as briefing notes and reports;
- Ability to provide strategic advice on sensitive or legally complex issues;
- Ability to develop and maintain a network of relationships within Parliament;
- Advanced proficiency in the MS Office suite;
- Excellent organizational and strategic skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines;
- Strong understanding of political, legal, social, and ethical issues in Canada and Quebec;
- Fluency in French and English, both written and oral; the office’s working language is French;
- Knowledge of the Senate of Canada, its committees, and the legislative process is considered an asset;
- Previous experience as a legal advisor or lawyer is considered a significant asset.
