At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.
Job Summary
The Office of the Provost and Vice President, Academic (Provost’s Office) at UBC Okanagan supports faculties as they conceptualize, develop, and deliver credit and non-credit academic programs. This includes providing market research and analysis to inform decisions related to program viability, sustainment, and renewal.
This position spearheads the market research and analysis to support new academic programs and reports on graduate outcomes for cyclical review processes of current programs. The analyst works in a consultative manner with faculty members and academic officers in departments, schools and faculties to design data collection approaches and instruments focused on matching academic program content and outcomes with market data (e.g., job postings, employment data). The analyst researches societal and labour market trends, assesses competitive programs, analyzes economic reports and creates summary reports that are used to guide decision-making.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Academic Programs, Teaching and Learning in the Provost's Office.
This position will also work closely with other members of the Provost’s Office and will interact with faculty members, educational consultants and curriculum developers in faculties and will maintain connections with a broad spectrum of data stakeholders at UBC.
Work Performed
- Provide timely, accurate, and meaningful market research and analysis for use by program proponents in faculties, senior administration, academic officers and committees in the conceptualization, development, sustainment and renewal of credit and non-credit programs.

- Develop and enhance data processes to support new and revised program enrolment projections.
- Extract and synthesize information from a variety of data sources, including university databases, government labour statistics, licensed software programs (e.g., Lightcast) and industry-specific reports to inform program viability assessments.
- Conduct primary and secondary research on labour market data to identify in-demand trends for new knowledge and skills at regional, provincial and national levels.
- Plan and implement surveys and other investigative tools.
- Respond to ad hoc requests for information and undertake special analytical projects as necessary.
- Provide input into and, as appropriate, support the design and/or selection of information systems that are used in association with market research data analysis.
