Athletic Therapist, Huskie Athletics

Summary:

The Athletic Therapist provides high-quality, sport focused athletic therapy expertise as a member of the Huskie Health Integrated Support Team (IST) for all Huskie teams, with a primary focus on men's football. This position collaborates with coaches, administration, and members of the sports medicine and science team to provide athletic therapy care. Key responsibilities include providing pre-season clearance to participate, emergency on field care, rehabilitation and post-operative care, and injury prevention. The athletic therapist also supports athlete education and engagement, supervises practicum student trainers, contributes to post-season performance analysis, and upholds privacy and documentation standards in alignment with university and professional guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide evidence supported athletic therapy care to varsity athletes and clients including, but not limited to: best practice pre-season clearance to participate, emergency on field care, accurate and timely assessment, rehabilitation, post-operative care, return to sport progressions and injury prevention;
• Work in partnership with members of the Huskie Health Care Coalition collaborating in the care and management of athlete injuries to support quick diagnosis and timely and safe return to sport;
• Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary Huskie Integrated Support Team (IST) to deliver coordinated and holistic athlete-centered care such as performance planning and injury management strategies
• Effectively communicate with student-athletes allowing them to confidently make informed decisions about their plan of care, see the value services offered and maintain engagement with their rehabilitation;
• Ensure Huskie Health privacy policies and procedures adhere to professional practice guidelines and university policies including charting standards.
• Delivers on-field medical support and clinical decision-making during training and competition, prioritizing athlete safety and adhering to best practices in emergency management
• Makes timely referrals, facilitates efficient diagnosis and treatment planning, and supports safe and progressive return-to-spot strategies in alignment with department protocols and goals
• Facilitates clear communication with student-athletes to empower informed decision-making regarding their care plans, highlight the value of available services, and foster consistent engagement throughout the rehabilitation process
• Adheres to privacy policies and procedures including charting standards and professional practice guidelines
• Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
• Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
• Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.

Qualifications:

• A diploma or bachelor’s degree in athletic therapy or related field
• Certified Athletic Therapist in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association
• First Aid/CPR and First Responder certification
• Minimum of two years of experience as an assistant, associate, or head athletic therapist, in a post-secondary setting or within a professional sport organization
• Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset
• Experience working with university caliber hockey or other collision or combative sports is an asset
• Eligible for professional liability insurance
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills
• The ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced clinical setting
• Strong interpersonal and communication
• Ability to travel as required for national championships
• Knowledge and proficiency in patient management software systems.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $53,091.00 - 82,954.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
