About the role
The Department of Biology is seeking Contract Academic Staff to deliver the following course and labs at Brandon University for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. Lectures are preferably delivered in person, and labs are required to be in person. Candidates interested in teaching either lectures or labs are welcome to apply.
15:269 Microbiology, Section A00 (3 credit hours), plus lab Sections Z01 and Z02 (1.5 credit hours per section)
This course serves as an overview of the diversity, ecology, physiology, and systematics of the Archaea and Bacteria. Lectures will emphasis the biology of prokaryotes of clinical, ecological, and industrial importance. The laboratory component of the course introduces students to methods used to isolate, enumerate, and characterize Bacteria, the safe handling of microbes, sterile technique, and the operation of laboratory equipment used in microbiology.
3 lecture hours per week, Fall term (September – December), scheduled in Slot 02, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 AM – 10:20 PM
2 lab sections, 3 hours each, weekly, Fall term (September – December), scheduled on Mondays 1:40 PM – 4:30 PM and Tuesdays 1:40 PM – 4:30 PM
Qualifications: A MSc (PhD preferred) in Microbiology or Biology or a related discipline. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Applicants must have relevant expertise in Microbiology and provide evidence of successful teaching. The laboratory instructor will be responsible for in-person delivery including the preparation of consumables, samples, solutions, and equipment as part of laboratory preparation/set-up and clean-up, laboratory safety, and marking or supervision of laboratory markers.
Salary: $7,857.00 per 3 credit hours
