TEMPORARYGROUNDS/REPAIRPERSON**–**WEST

Applications in writing will be received by the undersigned until filled, for the position of**"TEMPORARYGROUNDS/REPAIRPERSON****-****WEST”**with School District No. 51 (Boundary), effective date of employment.

The position is eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, until October 30, 2026, or return of incumbent, whichever occurs first.

Working under the general direction of the Director of Operations or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for the care and maintenance of all grounds in the east end of the District, including landscaping, maintaining the irrigation system and collection of garbage and recycling. The incumbent is required to carry out snow removal and plowing, as well as perform effectively in a variety of work categories and small maintenance tasks such as: delivery of equipment and supplies, assisting other maintenance employees, minor repairs to mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural items, and bus driving duties as required. The position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be able to organize and keep up with a very vigorous schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS,TRAININGANDEXPERIENCE**:**

  • Grade 12 education;
  • Completion of a recognized course in horticulture, landscaping or grounds keeping with a minimum of one- year experience in a commercial application;
  • Completion of a recognized course in Irrigation with a minimum of 6 months experience in a commercial application;
  • A valid Class 2 Driver's License with air brake endorsement;
  • WHMIS Certification;
  • Completion of a Playground Safety Inspection course would be an asset;
  • Physically able to perform all aspects of the job;
  • Demonstrated ability to act appropriately with students, teachers and parents is required;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use power tools as required and to select the appropriate materials used in the general repair and maintenance of school facilities, grounds and equipment, and to maintain basic records;
  • Demonstrated ability to operate grounds keeping machinery and all other District equipment such as bobcat, backhoe.
