Overview
This role will provide professional mental health services, specifically drop-in counselling hours and groups, that support student wellness and academic success.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual single-session drop-in counselling
- Develop and implement group sessions focused on common presenting problems
- Assess student needs (including risk assessments) in order to inform provision of care and/or referral
- Provide mental health services within regulatory bodies scope of practice
- Compliance to regulatory bodies code of conduct, college standards and practices and relevant legislation (PHIPA, Regulated Health Professions Act, , Health Promotion and Protection Act)
- Practice within an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, health promoters)
- Coordination of care with multiple service providers to ensure holistic approach
- Provision of follow-up care as needed
- Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, clinical roundtables and supervision
- Participate in quality assurance standards (file audits, case reviews)
- Ensure timely documentation of all care provided
- Remain current with respect to evidence informed practice
Qualifications
- Degree in Social Work or related discipline and registered with a regulatory body
- Extensive experience with individual counselling (especially single-session/solution focused/brief therapy and walk-in counselling).
- Experience developing and facilitating group sessions (psycho-educational and therapeutic)
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e. Personal Health Information and Privacy Act, Family and Children’s Services Act, etc.)
