QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification or certification pending as a Laboratory Assistant by Medical Laboratory Association of Ontario (MLPAO) or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Must be able to interact appropriately with patients
  • Must be experienced in taking blood from inpatients and outpatients
  • Must be able to perform simple laboratory tests under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Minimum of 6 months’ recent laboratory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent computer and keyboarding skills with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Cerner and Omni Assistant preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory protocols and terminology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods; Certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic laboratory equipment maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated strong multi-tasking, problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to effectively manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety

A new 178 bed capacity, full-service community hospital opened on August 26, 2011. We provide primary care to a population of 55,000 people and offer specialized care to nearly 110,000 within the County of Oxford.
