Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The IoT Engineer is responsible for shopfloor equipment connectivity in support of bringing smart factory solutions into reality. They will lead smart factory solutions initiatives through collaboration with cross functional support staff and lead Karmax to reaching our operational excellence goals through advanced technologies. The IoT engineer will be responsible for developing and managing projects from the conception and planning stages to implementation.
JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead projects related to but not limited to the following
- Vision Systems
- Advanced autonomous part picking
- Equipment sensorization
- Equipment connectivity
- Equipment performance machine learning and predictive leading indicators
- OEE Improvements
- Cycle Time Improvements
- Report out to Karmax and Magna group level leadership on smart factory solutions initiatives.
- Explain technical concepts and analysis implications clearly to a wide audience
- Develops business cases for project capital costs.
- Specify and project lead capital projects Benchmark of new / existing smart factory solutions measures at other Magna plants or suppliers respectively examination of innovative technologies / processes.
- Manage equipment suppliers and develop and control project deliverables.
- Develop new techniques and software to connect legacy equipment to modern infrastructure Create IoT applications that run on-premises and in the cloud
- Develop KPIs, metrics, and other monitoring tools to monitor the operational performance of our factories
- Collaborate closely with production, maintenance to reach operational excellence
- Deal with customer and vendors
- Be Karmax’s leader of smart factory solutions and Initiate awareness-raising activities (training, demonstrations) for the staff.
- Collaborate other IoT Specialists within Magna as well as with your Regional Smart Factory Solutions lead
- Support colleagues in sourcing equipment and technology that improves Karmax’s smart factory solutions performance Manage Karmax’s long term smart factory solutions goals.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exceptional organizational, leadership, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook).
- Excellent mathematical, analytical and organizational skills
- PLC programming background, i.e. Siemens and Rockwell controllers
- Robot programming background, i.e. Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, and/or Motoman
- Understanding of multiple computer programming languages, i.e. TypeScript, Rust, Python, C++ and/or Java
- Experience with the MQTT protocol
- Solid understanding of IT and OT networks i.e. EthernetIP, ProfiNet, IO Link
- Strong experience with relational databases, i.e. SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle. NoSQL databases experience is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework.
- Experience with capability studies (such as CPK, Gage R, and Gage R&R) and knowledgeable of statistical methods
- Knowledge of common manufacturing systems (ERP, MES, QMS)
- Familiarity with BI technologies, i.e. Grafana, Microsoft Power BI, AWS Quicksight, Qlikview
- Prioritize multiple deadlines and tasks.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- University Degree in Computer Science, Controls Engineering or related field of study.
- Minimum 3 years related work experience in with minimum 2 years in an Engineering Role.
- Proven capability and a sound understanding of engineering principles as applied to the following areas:
- PLC Programming
- Robot Programming
- Understanding of multiple computer programming languages
- Heavy manufacturing equipment
- Strong experience with relational databases
