Health and Safety Instructor Team Lead

Position Purpose

The Health and Safety Instructor Team Lead (Course Design and Delivery Team Lead) will be part of a growing team at the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), playing a crucial role in maintaining high standards of instructional quality and learning experience. Supporting and guiding the Course Design and Delivery Team, the Lead will collaborate on continuous improvements & initiatives and oversee instructor onboarding, certification, and mentorship programs. They will also serve as an expert resource in safety and adult learning principles, ensuring learning remains inclusive, engaging, and aligned with both organizational goals and industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate ACSA training programs by monitoring course feedback, exam results, and conducting quality assurance checks to improve instructional strategies and student outcomes.
  • Support and mentor the team in enhancing training methods, conduct instructor onboarding, and certification while promoting inclusive learning environments of respect, and fostering a collaborative, positive environment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the revision and development of learning materials, providing subject matter expertise to projects as required.
  • Promote evidence-based decision-making by monitoring industry trends, and legislative developments, ensuring overall compliance of learning materials.
  • Address student inquiries and concerns promptly, maintaining a high-quality learning experience.
  • Uphold the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO/NHSA) designation program by overseeing proficiency submissions, analyzing course test outcomes, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • In partnership with management, create and oversee the training course calendar, schedule certified instructors, and ensure adequate coverage for all courses.
  • Instruct courses and moderate discussions, in a primarily virtual instructor-led setting, as necessary, based on scheduling and to provide operational relief.
  • Conduct daily check-ins and assistance with urgent needs of the department.
  • Cross-training on various tactics and ensure continuity and coverage during vacation periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A suitable combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.

  • Education:
    • Post-secondary degree, diploma, and/or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Adult Learning, or related area.
    • Certification in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or related areas is considered an asset.
    • Canadian Registered Safety designation.
    • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
  • Experience:
    • 5 - 7 years of experience in health and safety within a high-risk industry such as construction or oil & gas.
    • 2 - 3 years experience in a leadership/mentorship role.
    • Multimedia technology experience, such as Adobe Connect.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office & Multimedia technology, capable of providing technical support as necessary.
  • Effectively collaborates with various stakeholders, leveraging communication and cooperation to drive positive outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently as a strong and contributing member in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Excels at creative thinking and problem-solving, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in project management principles.
  • Innovatively approaches course design and delivery challenges, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and implementing novel solutions to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Exhibits professionalism in representing Your ACSA and our commitment to delivering top-tier health and safety education.

Logistics

  • Daily work hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Approximately 50% classroom time & 50% administration/supervisory tasks.
  • This position will have the potential for a hybrid work model (ACSA facility, home office).
  • This position requires some travel and weekend work.
  • Reporting to the Manager of Course Design and Delivery.

Salary: 91,318+ depending on experience and qualifications
