About the role
Position Summary Drivers provide door-to-door, individualized service to meet client needs. They are responsible for driving clients to and from their appointment (medical, personal, or event etc.) in a safe manner.
Principal Responsibilities And Duties Provide Direct Service to clients
- Drive agency vehicle to transport clients as directed by their immediate contact at the Centre
- Contact clients prior to pick up to confirm transportation time
- Ensure that clients are safely in their seats with seat belts buckled
- Escort (arm for support, no lifting or transfers) door-to-door clients to appointments
- Undertake inspection of the vehicle and report deficiencies to their immediate contact at the Centre (when required, take the van for maintenance)
- Driver training and evaluations as directed
- Gasoline fill up and oil check as required
- Maintain mileage log
- Submit time sheets to immediate contact at the Centre
- Must attend training sessions as designated by the WOCRC
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle
Perform other related duties as assigned AVAILABILITY
- Must be available to work early mornings, evenings and weekends
- Must be able to work with 24 hour notice
HOURS Varies on-call Qualifications
- Valid drivers’ license “G”
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check
- Valid personal automobile insurance (minimum $2,000,000 liability)
(NOTE: valid personal insurance is an essential requirement; applicants without insurance will not be accepted)
- Clean Ministry of Transportation driver record (driver abstract required)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and exhibit flexibility
- Reliable and able to deal with city traffic in a relaxed but efficient manner
- Must be able to work legally in Canada.
The nature of the job requires the incumbent to be physically able to assist clients, (e.g. assisting clients into and out of vehicles, carrying groceries, folding and lifting assistive devices etc.)
Language
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written;
- Minimum of one position must be able to communicate in both official languages (E+F)
- Additional language abilities an asset.
