Position Overview:
The Manager, Financial Reporting assists in the preparation of the company’s financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A); ensuring that company procedures conform to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and are prepared for filing on both SEDAR (OSC) and EDGAR (SEC). Responsible for researching, developing, and documenting technical accounting memos; and play an active role in the internal control structure.
What You'll Do:
- Review of financial statements and reports that meet all regulatory and accounting guidelines
- Subject matter expert on IFRS, with a focus on providing advice and guidance on all technical accounting matters and preparation of documentation on the accounting assessment
- Support implementation of new IFRS standards as applicable, with a focus on providing advice and guidance on all technical accounting matters and preparation of documentation on the accounting assessment
- Participate in the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements
- Execute internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, certain accounting entries and account reconciliations
- Support process improvement initiatives for external reporting and internal control perspectives, including system implementations
- Preparation of required quarterly and annual filings with the OSC and SEC and provide support with global statutory filings
- Other related duties and required or assigned
Let's Talk About You:
- University degree in Business/Accounting
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required with Chartered Accountant (CA) focus
- 4 to 6 years of professional accounting experience, public practice from a Big 4 firm considered an asset
- Experience working in publicly traded companies
- Extensive IFRS technical accounting skills as evidenced by excellent research and documentation skills supporting accounting positions, including in the following areas: lease accounting, hedge accounting, stock-based compensation and business combinations.
- Experience in the consumer goods industry, retail or manufacturing a definite asset
- Experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management, strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Public company experience (Canada and US) with experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required and experience in data analytics is an asset
- Experience with ERP financial systems and reporting tools, Microsoft D365 an asset
- Experience with Workiva Wdesk platform for financial reporting preferred
