Position: Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
A part-time child and adolescent psychiatrist position is available with the Extensive Needs Service at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is an academic health science centre affiliated with the University of Toronto, is Canada’s largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital, and is home to the Bloorview Research Institute. We serve young people from birth to 19 years old with disabilities, rehabilitation needs and complex health and developmental needs.
The Extensive Needs Service (ENS) provides wrap-around and interprofessional services for children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities in Ontario who have co-occurring urgent medical, physical and mental health complexities and/or social vulnerabilities.
The service is designed to reduce barriers to accessing timely, evidence-based, and trauma-informed treatment for some of the most vulnerable children in Ontario. ENS provides ambulatory treatment to children, youth and families who require an integrated approach across mental, behavioural and developmental health. The program provides a trauma-informed and compassionate approach. The clinical team includes a developmental pediatrician, nurse practitioner, registered nurses, OT, SLP, behaviour analysists, clinical pharmacy, coordinated service planning, registered dietitian and clinical psychology.
Holland Bloorview, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and McMaster Children’s Hospital are the three sites in Ontario leading this program funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. The role is accountable to the Vice President, Medicine & Academic Affairs.
The FTE for this role will range from 0.2-0.4 FTE.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care to clients and caregivers as part of an interprofessional team
- Assess, diagnose and provide appropriate intervention based on the client’s needs
- Prescribe medications to treat various mental health and behavioural disorders
- Attend weekly interprofessional rounds
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers, as relevant to the client’s need while in-service
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Model behaviour that is aligned with the values, vision and mandate of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and the Extensive Needs Service
- A commitment to providing exceptional care and experience for clients and their families
- A commitment to a client and family-centered approach to care
Education – Certification, Licenses:
- Medical degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in psychiatry
- Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required
- Completion of 2 years’ training or experience in child/adolescent psychiatry or credentialing by the sub-specialty committee of the Royal College is preferred
- Preferred candidate would possess 3-5 years’ relevant clinical experience
