Role at a Glance

Baird Sampson Neuert architects (part of WF Group) is seeking a skilled architectural technologist with a strong interest in architectural design excellence to support the high-quality technical execution of projects across a range of scales and program type.

Working under the direction of the Project Architect and alongside project designers, and in close collaboration with an integrated, multidisciplinary team, this role plays a critical part in translating design intent into accurate, coordinated, and buildable documentation. The position offers an opportunity to grow as a technical expert while contributing to design focused, contemporary architecture, and excellence in project delivery.

The Architectural Technologist is responsible for developing detailed architectural Building Information Modelling, producing high quality and coordinated construction documents, and providing architectural technical support through construction stage work.

What You Will Do

  • Translate conceptual and schematic designs into technically sound, buildable solutions in collaboration with the Project Architect and design team.
  • Develop detailed BIM models and working drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, and drawing sets.
  • Produce coordinated, accurate architectural drawings and technical documentation from schematic design through construction documents using Revit, in accordance with office standards.
  • Develop and coordinate architectural systems and technical details, including high performance building envelope assemblies.
  • Review and integrate zoning bylaws, building codes, and regulatory requirements into project documentation, under the supervision of the Project Architect.
  • Coordinate architectural work with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty consultants to resolve technical and coordination issues.
  • Prepare and manage drawing packages, ensuring accuracy, consistency, revision control, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of architectural specifications, including researching products and systems and coordinating information from suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Participate in contract administration (CA) during construction: including conducting onsite field reviews, preparing and issuing field review report.
  • Reviewing and evaluating shop drawings, submittals, and product data for compliance with design intent and technical standards
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to clarify design intent and resolve technical issues during both documentation and construction phases.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and best practices for drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support internal quality control processes, maintaining well organized project files, drawing sets, and revision histories.
  • Participate in internal design and technical reviews, contributing insight related to constructability, materials, detailing, and coordination.
  • Assist senior technologists, architects, and engineers with site surveys, documentation, and technical research as required.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet project budget, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the company’s values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, design focused studio environment with an interest in design excellence and contemporary architecture.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or related fields.
  • 2 – 4 (+) years' experience working in a design focused architectural practice, with a strong focus on production and technical documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit for BIM and construction documentation. Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian/Ontario building codes, zoning bylaws, and building systems.
  • Experience producing construction documents and supporting projects through contract administration.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines and resolve technical challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and quality control skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and interact with consultants and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated interest in design excellence, high quality detailing, and contemporary architecture.
