Are you a learning leader looking for a new challenge? The Senior Manager, Learning Initiatives and Special Projects will manage the operations of the Firm’s Professional Development (PD) team within the Learning & Development Department with accountability for the national learning and development of legal and business professionals. This is a multi-faceted role, responsible for delivering hundreds of programs and events annually.
Please note, this is a contract opportunity with an expected end date of February 2027.
Major Responsibilities
- Uses leadership best practices to mentor, engage and support a team of six learning specialists and coordinators to set and meet their program delivery, project and operational goals
- Uses learning project management best practices to plan, monitor and deliver multiple PD curricula streams, multi-day retreats (offsite and onsite) and multi-week foundational learning events (law students and junior associates). Strong execution focus - understands key priorities and can effectively manage progress towards core deliverables
- Takes an active and hands-on role in delivering an exceptional learning experience, including some program facilitation as well as quality checking team planning and deliverables against learning best practices
- Advises on new learning initiatives, including how these fit within the existing learning ecosystem and learning priorities at the firm
- Leverages technology to ensure process efficiency, project tracking and delivery (e.g. LMS, project management tools, AI, educational technology tools, CPD tracking etc.). Oversees day-to-day LMS processes, best practices, and operations
- Supports other learning initiatives lead by the Director and Chief Legal Talent Officer
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
This position requires a university degree coupled with Adult Learning Certificate/Diploma or equivalent work experience. A minimum of 5 years' experience working as an adult educator or learning project or program manager in a lead role is strongly preferred. A Juris Doctor and experience as an associate in a large law firm may also be considered. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Excellent people management skills
- Strong problem-solving skills - able to troubleshoot problems and adapt to changing needs
- Expert knowledge on learning project design & delivery cycle, including adult learning theory and multi-modal learning. Advanced learning consultant and advisory skills
- Strong technology skills including educational technology. LMS and elearning design experience a significant asset
- Initiative and responsiveness to meet high internal client expectations
- Superior communication skills (both written and verbal); including strong facilitation/presentation skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders and groups at all levels
We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a requirement to work primarily in the office and flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
