Job Synopsis
Mennonite Central Committee British Columbia (MCC BC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant, Human Resources to support day-to-day HR operations. This Canada Summer Jobs position offers hands-on experience across core HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee records, internal communications, and employee engagement.
This role is designed as a learning opportunity for someone interested in building practical, real-world HR skills in a mission-driven organization. Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to a personal Christian faith and discipleship, active participation in a Christian church or Christian community, and nonviolent peacemaking
- **Must meet eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program (**Who can take part - Canada.ca):
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations, including having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
- If you have a SIN that begins with a 9, you must provide proof of residency. Acceptable documents include:
- a letter from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) confirming refugee status or
- a valid Permanent Resident Card
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary studies or a recent graduate
- Interest in Human Resources, administration, or working in a nonprofit organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Interest in working in a non-profit, faith-based organization
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Satisfactory criminal record check clearance upon hire
Key Responsibilities

Support day-to-day HR administration, including data entry, filing, and document management

Assist with recruitment processes, including posting positions, screening applications, and coordinating interviews

Support onboarding activities, including preparing documentation and coordinating new hire setup
-
Maintain and update employee records in HR systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
-
Support tracking HR data and supporting reporting as needed
-
Provide administrative support for HR initiatives such as performance processes, training, and employee engagement activities
-
Format and prepare HR documents and resources to align with MCC BC branding standards, ensuring materials are clear, professional, and visually consistent
-
Support the development of internal resources such as guides, templates, presentations, and training materials to enhance usability and engagement

Assist with employee engagement activities, including supporting staff events and contributing to a positive workplace culture

Help with coordination of staff meetings, training sessions, and internal events
ORGANIZATIONAL PARTICIPATION & CULTURE
- Participate in MCC BC meetings, training sessions, and organizational activities
- Contribute to a respectful, safe, and inclusive workplace culture
- Follow MCC BC policies, safeguarding practices, and standards of conduct
- Support a culture of accountability and ethical practice
- Perform other related duties as assigned

08 Jun, 2026 - may be adjusted, or until suitable candidate is identified.
Term Length
Summer term - 8 weeks.
Salary Details
. $21.63 per hour.

This is a temporary, hourly position working 37.5 hours per week for 8 weeks.
This position primarily operates within general office hours of 8:30 – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Work environment and physical demands: This position works in a busy office environment with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests from managers, employees and volunteers; and providing leadership and support on deadline-driven organizational projects and initiatives. As such, moderate mental stress is expected. This position may require up to 100% computer-monitor time. This position will have low interactions with vulnerable populations.
Location Description
This position is located at MCC BC’s Abbotsford head office, with occasional flexibility to accommodate a hybrid schedule.
