The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has an exciting senior leadership opportunity as the Executive Director of the Climate Resilience Branch. We are seeking a highly skilled, results-oriented and collaborative leader to provide strategic leadership and direction to the branch.

The Opportunity:

As Executive Director, this position is responsible to:

  • Provide executive leadership to the Climate Resilience Branch, overseeing three units and ensuring alignment with government priorities, fiscal responsibility, and a positive, high-performing culture;
  • Lead the design, administration, and renewal of Saskatchewan’s Output-Based Pricing System, including compliance;
  • Oversee the management of compliance-fund revenues (Saskatchewan Technology Fund, Clean Electricity Transition Grant) to maximize emissions reductions, industry innovation, and reinvestment in the provincial economy;
  • Lead the design of climate resilience policy and analytics;
  • Engage industry sectors, associations, and Crown corporations through structured consultations, bilateral meetings, and roundtables to ensure policies reflect economic realities while supporting growth and investment;
  • Represent Saskatchewan in intergovernmental negotiations and policy forums, influencing federal, provincial, and territorial climate frameworks while safeguarding Saskatchewan’s jurisdiction and competitiveness;
  • Provide strategic advice to Cabinet, Treasury Board, and senior executives on climate policy, industrial regulation, adaptation, and resilience; and
  • Foster partnerships with academics, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance evidence-based decision making and strengthen Saskatchewan’s leadership in pro-growth climate policy.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have outstanding leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communications skills; knowledge and practical experience with climate change legislation and its administration; and a solid understanding of the evolution of international, national and sub-national climate change policy frameworks and their challenges.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, our candidate of choice possesses the following:

  • Extensive expertise with climate change legislation and its administration;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the evolution of international, national and sub-national climate change policy frameworks and their challenges;
  • A solid understanding of operational planning, human resource management and legislative and regulatory processes;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills as you develop and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders and partners;
  • A proven track record as a creative, innovative and results-oriented leader, with a thorough understanding of process and management principles;
  • The ability to think creatively, identify opportunities for improvement and growth, inspire and motivate their team, take calculated risks, embrace change, and adapt to evolving business environments;
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and, interpersonal skills;
  • A visionary leader who is strategic, collaborative and innovative, with a history of achieving results;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build consensus with a diverse group of stakeholders with demonstrated success in moving key stakeholders to a positive resolution; and
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:

  • A graduate degree in economics, public administration, natural sciences, engineering, or another appropriate discipline with relevant experience;
  • Extensive senior leadership experience with proven success leading a high-performing team.
