Maintenance Management System Technologist

The City of Edmonton is looking for a Maintenance Management System Technologist to join our Planning and Monitoring team. You’ll combine your technical savvy in SAP with a knack for process improvement to help our teams deliver high-quality services.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Business Performance and Analytics, you will oversee and coordinate the maintenance management system (SAP Plant Maintenance module) governing all Mobility Infrastructure Services (MIS) activities. You will act as a Technical Subject Matter Expert, introducing new tools and processes while providing direct support to frontline operations. This role focuses on analyzing maintenance data-entry processes, creating/auditing SAP plant maintenance work orders, implementing improved workflows, and preparing for a seamless transition to SAP S/4HANA.
What will you do?
- Lead projects for updating SAP-related processes, including creating and leading presentations, workflows, and training sessions for operational areas
- Manage and refine the maintenance management system (SAP-Plant Maintenance module), identifying and resolving systemic issues, proposing effective management solutions, and maintaining data integrity
- Create SAP plant maintenance work orders and conduct regular audits to ensure work order setup compliance and data accuracy
- Provide SAP Mobility troubleshooting support and training, including updating PA30 default records during seasonal changes
- Support IT and technical inventory audits in collaboration with Branch Integrated Support Services
- Scope and lead projects aimed at improving business performance by modifying processes or implementing new tools
- Provide oversight for maintenance and asset-related data, such as preventive maintenance plans and asset inventories, to ensure information is accessible and accurate
- Monitor the work of district inspectors and clerks to ensure that all SAP-related processes are harmonized and consistent across programs and units
- Establish and maintain procedures and tools for scheduling and documenting labour, equipment, and material consumption
Qualifications:
- Completion of a two (2) year diploma in Engineering, Business, Computer Technology, or a related discipline
- Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in workflow mapping and process improvement, with a specific focus on auditing operational data and utilizing maintenance management systems such as SAP Plant Maintenance module and SAP Asset Manager
Assets:
- A PMP certification or a directly related professional designation
- Specialized coursework or training in SAP applications, Lean Six Sigma, or Change Management
- Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA and experience utilizing data visualization tools like Tableau
Skills required for success:
- Proven SAP Experience: In-depth knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance module is essential, including proficiency in managing master data like Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Work Centre, Task Lists, Functional locations and equipment
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to synthesize large amounts of complex data and make recommendations that increase organizational effectiveness
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced computer skills, including Google Applications (Google Docs, Sheets), enterprise resource planning applications (SAP Asset Manager, SAP S4/HANA), and workflow development tools
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills for internal and external collaboration
- Project Leadership: Experience leading projects for updating SAP-related processes, including creating and leading presentations, workflows, user manuals and training sessions
- System Management: Ability to oversee maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP), identify systemic issues, and propose effective solutions
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically, make decisions, and assess risks effectively
- Data Management: Skills in maintaining and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of maintenance and asset-related data
- Adaptability: Ability to manage changing priorities, complex information, and issues promptly and efficiently
- A proven ability to lead end-to-end process improvements and system upgrades while managing organizational change is vital
- Skill in influencing others to ensure consistency in system usage and process compliance across the organization
