Role Summary
As the Coordinator, Philanthropy, you will support the Philanthropy team in coordinating direct response initiatives targeting new, current and lapsed donors. Day-to-day you will be participating in direct solicitation, third party events, stewardship activities, and event support.

What You Will Be Doing
Donor Cultivation, Stewardship & Recognition to Grow the Direct Response Program
- Coordinating with the Senior Specialist, Direct Response to develop a plan for annual giving campaigns that utilizes direct solicitation, email, social media, and phone calls to grow the number of donors and amount of financial support.
- Coordinating with the Senior Specialist, Direct Response and Manager, Donor Relations & Engagement to develop and implement stewardship activities through tailored correspondence, reports, and updates in relation to campaigns such as welcome series, thank you calls/emails, Ocean Wise event follow-up, holiday salutations, and updated system thank you communications.
- Assisting with the building and editing of lists for email communications, direct mailings and telemarketing, as well as segmenting lists of prospective, current, and lapsed donors.
- Assisting with the monthly giving program including supporting the maintenance of stewardship and cultivation activities.
- Coordinating with the Senior Specialist, Direct Response to develop Peer-to-Peer and Third-Party Event Fundraising strategies and procedures.
- Assisting in the maintenance and stewardship of third-party fundraising systems, such as Charitable Impact, Benevity, and Canada Helps.
- Responding to incoming donor phone and email inquiries.
- Assisting in organizing donor engagement activities including new donor thank you calls and follow up with lapsed monthly donors.
- Supporting the segmentation work and planning for the mid-level program.
Administrative Support
- Supporting the Database Manager with updating the donor database (Salesforce)
- Completing gift processing/data entry for third party events and CanadaHelps.
- Creating and updating donation forms in our online giving platform.
- Preparing and sending acknowledgement letters and tax receipts in coordination with the Database Manager.
- Providing administrative support for the annual giving team, including updating donor communications in the database.
- Developing procedural documents for general inquiries, processes, and the database system requirements.
- Other duties as required to support the overall objectives of the philanthropy team and the broader organizational goals.
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience in annual giving/direct response fundraising in the not-for-profit sector
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, public administration, marketing or communication or business administration) or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience working with donor databases, digital communications tools and online giving platforms
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with teams and independently.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and relationships in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, Salesforce, Fundraise Up or similar databases.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to respond positively to frequent change.
- Ability to work with and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Interest in becoming an impactful fundraising professional.
- Assets include:
- Experience working with a diverse array of stakeholders
- Experience working in conservation.
How You Will Be Measured
- Your support with Salesforce database clean up – record merging and accurate data entry
- Your work with the Senior Specialist, Direct Response to support third-party events and grow the third-party portfolio
- Your support with stewardship efforts for the annual program, including thank you calls/emails

What We Offer
This full-time, benefits-eligible position offers:
- A remote working environment, with the option to work in person in our beautiful downtown Vancouver head office
- A base salary, $53,000 - $59,000, in line with market data for not-for-profit organizations

Where and How You’ll Work
This is a remote-first position with the possibility to work at our headquarters in downtown Vancouver, if desired. The standard work week for this role is 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday, with rare exceptions for some evening or weekend work. This role involves sitting, standing, working on a computer or laptop, participating in phone and video calls.
While this role is currently eligible to operate in a remote capacity, Ocean Wise reserves the right, with reasonable notice, to require you to perform your duties fully in person at an Ocean Wise office or other designated locations.
