As Bar Manager you will be the key driver in ensuring that every aspect of our bar service program meets the highest standards of excellence, creativity, and member satisfaction.
Overview
Reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager, the Bar Manager is responsible for the leadership, operation, and innovation of Jericho Tennis Club’s bar program. This role ensures that members receive exceptional beverage experiences—rooted in professionalism, creativity, and hospitality. The Bar Manager oversees daily bar operations, inventory and cost control, team leadership, and service standards, while fostering a clean, safe, and member-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service
- Manage day-to-day bar operations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and member-focused service.
- Step into hands-on bar service during peak times or in cases of absenteeism.
- Work as Manager on Duty and/or Floor Manager for the restaurant as needed (1-2 days per week)
- Uphold Jericho service standards of Genuine Care, Cleanliness, Efficiency, and Teamwork**.**
- Monitor cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in compliance with WorkSafeBC and JTC Health & Safety Policy.
Beverage Program
- Lead the design and maintenance of seasonal wine, beer, cocktail, and non-alcoholic offerings.
- Serve as the Club’s in-house wine expert and sommelier, supporting wine education for staff and members.
- Introduce creative, innovative bar programming aligned with member preferences and Club culture.
- Partner with the Food & Beverage team to support events, banquets, and restaurant operations.
Financial & Administrative
- Oversee ordering, inventory management, and reconciliation of bar products.
- Track and manage beverage cost controls to align with departmental budgets.
- Prepare operational reports and statistics as requested.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, and supervise a small team of bartenders.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and recognition in alignment with JTC’s Progressive Discipline and Recognition policies.
- Model respectful workplace practices in line with JTC’s Discrimination, Bullying & Harassment Policy.
- Foster a supportive, member-facing, and service-driven culture.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities (KSAs)
- Deep understanding of bar operations, structure, and systems.
- Advanced knowledge of wines (sommelier training/certification preferred).
- Strong proficiency in cocktails, mixology, and craft beer.
- Proven ability to manage costs, ordering, and inventory with attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent listener, communicator, and member-service professional.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure while maintaining a calm, professional presence.
Employment Requirements
- Education/Certification:
o****Serving It Right (mandatory).
o****Sommelier or WSET certification strongly preferred.
o****Cocktail/mixology, beer knowledge or certification an asset.
o****Minimum 3 years’ bar leadership or management experience (private club or unionized environment an asset).
o****Open availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
- Primarily on the Clubhouse floor with frequent member interaction.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts required
May include hands-on bar service and lifting up to 50 lbs.
