Job Description:
Support Staff employees, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration .
Payband: This position is paid at Payband J.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; This position is subject to averaging of hours. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and off-hours for projects, maintenance and support.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director, provides technical expertise for the functioning of the College’s communications systems. Researches and provides specifications and possible solutions to new communications challenges related to expanded service, increased security and new industry technology. Leads and supports troubleshooting of issues of all severity related to performance and availability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications Infrastructure Management
- Administer and maintain PBX and VoIP systems, servers, and end-user devices
- Apply patches, updates, and upgrades in alignment with change management protocols
Project Coordination & Solution Development
- Assess user needs and recommend viable communication solutions
- Collaborate with ITS teams and external departments to implement approved projects
Technology Planning & Improvement
- Participate in infrastructure planning and implementation
- Evaluate emerging communication technologies and liaise with vendors
Mentorship
- Mentor co-op students and manage administrative aspects of placements
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support IT operations
Qualifications:
- 3 year diploma/degree in Computer Science, IT Operations, Information Systems, Computer Systems Technology, Telecommunications or related field
- 5 years experience providing technical support for communications technologies, particularly PBX and VoIP.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Ability to troubleshoot and triage, escalating to appropriate technology specialists as required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and implement projects
