The Opportunity:

In our continuously evolving organization, the HR Business Advisor plays a key role in supporting leaders and employees by providing sound HR advice, practical solutions, and consistent application of policies and legislation.
As an HR professional, you will work closely with business leaders to support employee relations matters, investigations, performance management, and policy interpretation - while also ensuring accurate and timely execution of core HR processes. This role requires confidence, strong judgment, and the ability to remain professional and composed in demanding situations.
- Job location: Site based - Fort McMurray, Alberta OR Calgary, Alberta with bi-weekly, overnight trips to site
- Shift schedule:
- Fort McMurray: 4 x 3 (Monday to Thursday), 10-hour shifts
- Calgary: 5 x 2 (Monday to Friday), 8-hour shifts
- On-call requirement: Rotational emergency on-call HR support for 24-hour operations
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

What You’re Known For:
- Credibility and confidence when advising leaders on complex and sensitive employee relations matters
- Ability to independently manage workplace investigations, including fact‑finding, documentation, analysis, and defensible recommendations
- Willingness to deliver and stand behind difficult or unpopular decisions, including discipline and terminations
- Strong judgment and consistency in applying company policies and employment legislation
- Disciplined attention to detail, particularly in documentation that may be relied upon for formal or legal review
- Ability to collaborate effectively with leaders, HR peers, and cross‑functional partners to ensure aligned and consistent outcomes
- Maintaining professionalism, composure, and fairness in high‑pressure or emotionally charged situations
Key Accountabilities:
- Serve as a trusted HR advisor to business unit leaders on complex employee relations matters, including performance management, corrective action, investigations, and terminations
- Provide clear, consistent advice on the interpretation and application of company policies, programs, and applicable employment legislation
- Independently conduct and support workplace investigations, including intake, fact‑finding, documentation, and defensible recommendations
- Deliver accurate and timely transactional HR support, including maintaining employee data in HR systems and preparing reports as required
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across the site and within the HR team to ensure consistent HR practices
What you Bring to the Role:
- 5+ years of progressive HR and advisory experience, with demonstrated strength in:
- Employee relations
- Workplace investigations
- Discipline and termination processes
- Coaching and advising leaders
- Post‑secondary education in Human Resources or a related field, and/or equivalent experience gained through progressive HR advisory roles
- CPHR designation is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of relevant Provincial and Federal employment legislation
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism
- Clear, concise communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Comfort working on site in a safety-sensitive, operational environment
