Stand.earth is seeking a creative and experienced Climate Campaigner for a part-time contract position starting as soon as possible and running to the end of 2026 (with the possibility of extension). Reporting to the SAFE Cities Senior Climate Campaigner, this position will be responsible for raising the profile of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT) initiative by helping local governments pass resolutions endorsing the Treaty, particularly in Atlantic provinces. They will also support Stand.earth’s SAFE Cities Campaign by helping municipalities pass policies reducing or eliminating fossil fuels in buildings, also with a focus on Atlantic provinces. The ideal candidate has strong connections to the climate movement in eastern Canada, a demonstrated track record of successfully working to pass climate policies, and experience in collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Scope of Work

####Key Responsibilities

• Identify and leverage strategic opportunities to grow the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty footprint in Canada, in particular across Atlantic Canada, and especially in PEI and New Brunswick
• Help resource and design small-scale campaigns that result in endorsements at the local level
• Develop and maintain relationships with climate activists, local government officials, and other partners
• Steward and grow a network of allies working to advance a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, particularly in Atlantic Canada
• Draft compelling content to promote the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, including blogs, social media posts, and other mediums as appropriate
• Support the SAFE Cities team to advance municipal policies that tangibly reduce fossil fuel use in buildings, particularly in Atlantic Canada
• Participate in SAFE Cities events in support of local green building policies

Qualifications and Skills

• Experience in advancing government policy or resolutions, ideally but not necessarily at the municipal level
• Proven track record of developing and implementing effective public campaign strategies and tactics
• Experience in building organizing networks and collaborative campaign planning with diverse stakeholders
• Excellent written communication skills in English
• Ability to quickly assimilate complex information and identify strategic opportunities
• Passion for combatting the fossil fuel industry and climate change
• Strong preference for a candidate with climate and other community networks and deep knowledge of the political and cultural landscape in Atlantic Canada
• Preference for candidates with working French language skills
• Preference for experience with digital campaigning

##Projected Contract Hours & Rate

This is a part-time contract position until the end of December 2026 (with possibility for extension). The hourly rate offered will be $55 CAD per hour for up to 20 hours per week.

The location for this contract position is fully remote in Atlantic Canada. Ideally the candidate will be based in New Brunswick or PEI to build relationships with community groups and support local events, but we are open to candidates based in all Atlantic provinces. The candidate must be willing and able to do occasional travel within Canada.
